ISO STANDARDS POWER AHEAD.
Despite the recent financial crisis that had an impact on most countries the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) reported certifications of management systems in 176 countries. The organization is of the opinion that this is an indication that management systems are viewed as indispensable in the world economy and may even be viewed as more essential in a time of crisis.
It is also interesting that the ISO Survey of Certifications – 2008 published on 7th December 2009 showed a marked increase in certifications of ISO 22000 food safety management systems and ISO 27001 information security management systems.
By the end of 2008 the number of:
- ISO 22000 certifications had reached 8,102 in 112 countries which is more than a 96% increase from 2007.
- ISO 27001 certifications had reached 9,246 in 82 countries which is more than a 20% increase from 2007 and 94% of those certifications are for organization providing services.
- ISO 9001 certifications had reached just short of a million in 176 countries which is more than a 3% increase from 2007 and 40% of those certifications are for organization providing services.
- ISO 14001 certifications had reached 188,815 in 155 countries which is more than a 22% increase from 2007 and 34% of those certifications are for organization providing services.
It just goes to show that compliance is here to stay.
